About the PR25DD Engine

The 5th-generation Altima (2019+) uses the PR25DD — a direct-injection 2.5L engine distinct from the older QR25DE used in previous Altima generations and the T32 Rogue. The PR25DD features Nissan’s Variable Compression Ratio technology in a simplified form and is designed around 0W-20 lubrication from the ground up. Do not cross-reference parts from the older QR25DE engine family.

Using incorrect oil will:

  • ❌ Increase friction and accelerate wear in the direct-injection valvetrain
  • ❌ Reduce cold-start protection for timing chain components
  • ❌ Risk voiding Nissan’s powertrain warranty

Nissan-Approved Oil Brands

  • ✅ Nissan Genuine Motor Oil Full Synthetic 0W-20

  • ✅ Mobil 1 Advanced Full Synthetic 0W-20

  • ✅ Castrol Edge 0W-20

  • ✅ Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20

  • ✅ Valvoline Advanced Full Synthetic 0W-20

Look for API SP or ILSAC GF-6A on the bottle. Full synthetic is required.

Severe Service Check

Shorten to 3750 miles or 6 months if you:

  • Drive mostly short trips under 5 miles
  • Operate in extreme cold (below 10°F) frequently
  • Experience sustained stop-and-go commuting
  • Tow or carry heavy loads regularly

Installation Details

Pro Tip: The PR25DD’s oil filter is a spin-on canister on the bottom of the engine block. A standard 65mm or 67mm filter wrench fits the housing. Pre-fill the new filter slightly and coat the gasket with fresh oil before installation.
