Complete Oil Specifications
GM’s owner manual for the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing with the 6.2L V8 Engine (LT4) says to use full synthetic engine oil that meets the dexosR specification, in SAE 0W-40 viscosity. Look for the dexosR approved logo. Engine oil capacity is 8.5 L (9.0 qt) with the filter.
For the LT4, GM recommends Mobil 1 oil that shows the dexosR approved logo.
When to Change the Oil
The CT5-V Blackwing uses GM’s Engine Oil Life System, which works out the change point from engine revolutions, temperature and miles driven. When CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON appears, change the oil within the next 1 000 km (600 mi). GM also requires:
- At least once a year: change the oil and filter, even if the system hasn’t asked for it.
- After an accidental reset: change the oil at 5 000 km (3,000 mi) since the last change.
What We Couldn’t Confirm
- Capacity without the filter, OEM filter part number and drain plug torque. None appear in the owner manual.
- dexosR generation. The manual text says dexosR without naming a generation.
