Why PSA B71 2010 Matters for the PureTech Wet Belt

The EB2ADTS/HN05 PureTech 130 is a 3-cylinder turbocharged engine with an oil-immersed timing belt — PSA’s signature “wet belt in oil bath” design. It is mechanically quieter and more compact than a conventional timing chain, but requires precise oil chemistry:

  • B71 2312 / ACEA C2 oils degrade the wet belt: The mid-SAPS additive chemistry in ACEA C2 oils interacts adversely with the belt’s elastomer compound, causing swelling and accelerated wear. This is a documented issue PSA addressed by mandating B71 2010 (ACEA A3/B4, 0W-20) for 2020+ PureTech production.
  • 0W-20 fast cold-flow: The wet belt is particularly vulnerable during cold starts before oil reaches the belt sump. The low cold-viscosity (0W) ensures oil reaches the belt within seconds at low temperatures.

PSA issued technical service bulletins following field failures on earlier PureTech engines where B71 2312 / 5W-30 oil was used. The 2022 2008 uses a revised belt and mandates B71 2010 to prevent recurrence.

Peugeot-Approved Oil Brands

  • ✅ Total Quartz 9000 Future 0W-20 (PSA B71 2010 certified)

  • ✅ Castrol Edge 0W-20

  • ✅ Shell Helix Ultra ECT C5 0W-20

  • ✅ Mobil 1 ESP LV 0W-20

  • ✅ Liqui Moly Longtime Top 0W-20

Look for PSA B71 2010 on the label. Do not use ACEA C2 or any oil labelled B71 2312, regardless of viscosity.

Severe Service Check

You need the 5000-mile interval if you:

  • Take predominantly short trips under 5 miles (prevents oil from reaching full operating temperature)
  • Drive heavily in urban stop-and-go traffic
  • Experience ambient temperatures consistently below -15°C
  • Use the vehicle for towing or sustained uphill/high-speed driving

FAQs

What oil does a 2022 Peugeot 2008 PureTech 130 take? 0W-20 full synthetic oil meeting PSA B71 2010 and ACEA A3/B4.

Is the PureTech 130 the same engine as in the 208? Yes — the EB2ADTS/HN05 PureTech 130 is shared across multiple PSA/Stellantis models. The oil specification (B71 2010, 0W-20) is the same.

How many quarts does it need? 3.8 quarts with a new filter, 3.5 without.
