Complete Oil Specifications

Ford’s Shelby GT500 supplement for the 2022 Mustang with the 5.2L Shelby GT500 engine recommends Motorcraft SAE 5W-50 Full Synthetic Motor Oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C931-C. Oil must meet WSS-M2C931-C, or use an SAE 5W-50 oil that meets API SN requirements for gasoline engines. Engine oil capacity is 11.5 qt (10.9 L) including the oil filter.

Oil Filter

Ford lists the Motorcraft FL-2087 engine oil filter. Ford says to use only this filter for maximum performance, reliability and durability; any other oil filter could cause engine damage.

Extreme Cold

Where ambient temperatures reach 20°F (-7°C) or below, Ford recommends Engine Oil - SAE 0W-40 (WSS-M2C937-A) for better cold starting.

When to Change the Oil

The GT500’s Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor shows a message in the information display when an oil change is due; change the oil within two weeks or 500 mi (800 km) of the message appearing. The supplement’s guideline examples are 5,000 mi (8,000 km) or annually for normal use and 3,000 mi (4,800 km) or annually for severe or extreme use, including maximum load or track use and high engine speed, and it says not to exceed one year or 10,000 mi (16,000 km) between service intervals. Oil consumption of about 1 quart per 500 miles is possible under hard or track driving, so check the oil level at every refueling.
