Complete Oil Specifications
Subaru’s owner’s manual for the 2023 WRX (FA24) says to always use SUBARU approved engine oil. If that isn’t available, it lists an alternative: 0W-20 synthetic oil with an API classification of SP with the words “Resource Conserving”, or ILSAC GF-6A (Starburst mark).
Engine oil capacity is 4.8 US qt (4.5 L) when changing the oil and filter, or 4.5 US qt (4.3 L) when changing the oil only. Subaru calls these quantities a guideline.
Can I Use 5W-30?
Only to top up. If 0W-20 synthetic oil isn’t available, SAE 5W-30 conventional oil may be used when you need to add oil, but Subaru says it should be changed to 0W-20 synthetic at the next oil change.
