Toyota’s owner’s manual for the 2024 RAV4 Hybrid (2.5L A25A-FXS) calls for Toyota Genuine Motor Oil or an equivalent ILSAC GF-6B multigrade oil, with a recommended viscosity of SAE 0W-16. Oil capacity is 4.5 qt (4.3 L) with the filter and 4.2 qt (4.0 L) without.
0W-16, With 0W-20 Only as a Stopgap
Toyota calls SAE 0W-16 the best choice for fuel economy and cold starting. If 0W-16 isn’t available, you can use SAE 0W-20, but it must be replaced with 0W-16 at the next oil change. Look for GF-6B, not GF-6A, because GF-6B is the ILSAC grade that covers 0W-16.
Checking the Level After a Change
Toyota’s capacity is a reference for a drain and refill. When adding oil, keep the level between the dipstick’s low mark and the refill upper limit mark. Warm up the engine, turn off the hybrid system, wait about 5 minutes, then check the dipstick.
