BMW’s owner’s manual for the 2021 3 Series Sedan says the gasoline engine in the 330i and 330i xDrive needs oil that meets BMW Longlife-01 FE, BMW Longlife-14 FE+ or BMW Longlife-17 FE+, in SAE 0W-20 or SAE 0W-30.

Topping Up Without Longlife Oil

If an oil suitable for continuous use isn’t available, BMW allows adding up to 1 US quart (1 liter) of API SL, API SM or API SN oil. That’s a top-up only, not an approval for a full oil change. The manual also warns that oil additives can damage the engine.

When to Change the Oil

BMW recommends not exceeding the service intervals indicated in the vehicle, and having a dealer’s service center or another qualified shop change the oil.

What We Couldn’t Confirm

Engine oil capacity. BMW’s owner’s manual doesn’t publish a fixed quart figure.
Displacement and engine code. The manual identifies the car as the 330i / 330i xDrive and doesn’t print the B46/B48 codes quoted elsewhere.
OEM oil filter part number and drain plug torque. Neither appears in the owner’s manual.
